Sinhala/Tamil Language Foundation was established on the 22nd of November 2013 in Doha, State of Qatar.
The patron of the Foundation is Mr. Kumudu Fonseka, Chairman of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha.
The Founding Members are the Students of the 2013 Commerce Forum of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha.
In the past decade, there has been a clear increase in the number of Sri Lankan migrant workers. This has brought about a significant change to the families of these migrant workers. Presently, Sinhala is being looked down and fast depleting though it is the media of the majority. Tamil is the most popular first language after Sinhala, however, with the changes in the life styles it is now far from being true.
Language is a very powerful tool for mutual understanding between people. The lack of knowledge in another language has been the cause for many misunderstandings. Sri Lanka is a country with multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-script environment. In such an environment, learning several languages is advantageous and essential for the entire community.
This foundation has been established with the intentions of securing the long lost status, to bring unity through knowledge and to demand entrance, for Sri Lankan migrant workers' children, to local universities. It is evident that this foundation will pave the way for many Sri Lankans, who lost their core-value, to develop and strengthen themselves even while living miles away from their motherland Sri Lanka.
